Concept Artist Lead (PGLCoA)
The Concept Art Lead will report to the Art Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creation of technical and conceptual designs to be used as reference by the 3D modellers
- Following the vision and pipelines as defined by the Art Director and Lead Artist
- Collaborating with other concept artists to maintain a consistent aesthetic throughout all aspects of the game
- Ensuring that designs are consistent and appropriate within the IP's history, lore, and canon.
- Keeping up to date with all upcoming game design requirements for the art department
- Creating finished art pieces for promotional materials and art books
Position and Portfolio Specific Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of the Battletech Universe, lore and canon.
- Extensive knowledge of the design specifications of Mechs and other vehicles in the Battletech Universe.
- Extensive knowledge of the design specifications, types, and placement of weapons in the Battletech Universe and their relationship to Mechs.
- Very strong mechanical drafting skills.
- Very strong grasp of scale, weight and mass in regards to mechanical design.
- Rich background and understanding of colour and spatial composition.
- A strong understanding of construction, mechanics and architecture.
- A strong visual and spatial aptitude.
- Knowledge and ability to apply the principals of modern industrial design.
- Very strong ability to render complex mechanical apparatus in 3D, isographic and orthographic modes.
- Capable of creating detailed schematics and exploded views of complex mechanical apparatus.
- Ability to sketch out ideas and rough concepts quickly and legibly during meetings.
- Ability to provide Mech concept art to a very high standard and in the style is required.
- Ability to provide character, vehicle, weapon, and environmental concept art to a very high standard and in the style is an asset.
- Understands the production and design processes relevant to creating video games.
- Strong understanding of weapon design, form, function, and aesthetics.
- Accomplished in exterior and interior vehicle design including chassis, powertrain, running gear, cabin/cockpit and body.
- Strong general knowledge of various types of vehicles including air, land, sea and hybrid.
- Strong ability to render mechanical vehicles and apparatus in various degrees of wear and damage.
- Digital painting skills (photoshop or similar) required.
